🔎 HISTORY:
The TGV Sud-Est was France’s first-generation high-speed train, introduced by SNCF in 1981 for the Paris–Lyon LGV Sud-Est line, marking the start of modern high-speed rail in Europe.
Developed by GEC-Alsthom and SNCF, each set featured two power cars and eight passenger trailers, reaching 270–300 km/h in daily service, and offered First and Second Class seating. Its iconic orange-and-grey livery symbolized French engineering innovation, while the train’s reliability and speed transformed intercity travel.
The success of the Sud-Est led to the rapid expansion of France’s TGV network across the country and inspired high-speed rail in other nations, including Spain, Germany, and Italy. The Sud-Est remains a milestone in rail history, proving that high-speed trains could operate safely, comfortably, and profitably in regular service.
