The E5 Series Shinkansen, introduced in 2011 by JR East, is a high-speed train operating primarily on the Tohoku Shinkansen, linking Tokyo with northern Japan.
Known for its sleek green-and-pink aerodynamic nose, it can reach speeds of 320 km/h, offering one of the fastest Shinkansen services in Japan. Inside, the 10-car sets feature premium “Gran Class” seating, large windows, and quiet, comfortable interiors designed for long-distance travel.
Often coupled with E6 Series trains between Tokyo and Morioka, the E5 combines speed, technology, and scenic comfort, while 59 sets (590 cars) have been built, making it both iconic and widely used on Japan’s rail network.
